We had recently stayed at the Aveda resort, Kumarakom. For its location alongside the Lake Vembanad, the backwaters of Kerala, and all the services, we cherished a refreshing stay. The backwaters area in Kumarakom hosts a number of resorts. It took a long search for us to screen them all to choose one. And we are definitely glad we chose Aveda!
The ambiance has a serene feel which one can breathe soon after stepping into the lounge area. The interiors designed in a traditional style give much an earthy feeling. Service was excellent right from the pick up until we were bid goodbye personally by the amiable receptionist. Aveda provides pick up service from the nearest airport or railway station for an additional charge which is quite reasonable.
Rooms are in the form of individual cottages. Cottage on the ground floor open to the huge swimming pool on the rear end. A few rooms have private pools which are too small though. Those on the first floor have a nice pool and lake view from the top. The cottages were compact enough for a family. Amenities were simple and perfect for use. The best feature is the availability of good wi-fi connectivity throughout the resort. The back door of the cottage opens to a small balcony and then to the pool. The bathroom needs a special mention as it has an open enclosure for a unique shower experience. However, the cottages on the first floor aren’t the same.
The highlight of Aveda resort is the huge swimming pool. The pool is well-maintained and highly inviting. There are separate kids’ and adults’ pool areas. The pool covers a long stretch, located centrally surrounded by the cottages on both sides. The end of the pool faces Lake Vembanad, rendering a beautiful view of waters everywhere.
A walk around the cottages in the early morning hours was an soothing activity. Light showers which Kerala is known for adds to those warm moments at the resort.
Food was in par excellence to anything we had in Kerala though the price was on the higher side. The complementary breakfast had wide servings and definitely a worthy inclusive of the package. The dining area facing the pool was another delight. A complementary evening boat ride around the lake, a live classical sankirtan, an ayurvedic spa and indoor games area were other attractive facilities at Aveda.
Overall, there’s nothing we regretted or felt could have been better at Aveda. The next time you are at Kumarakom, Aveda can offer a memorable stay for you are your family.
